This collection consists of diaries and other personal papers of Gustave Arvilien Breaux (1828-1910) of southern Louisiana. Included are two handwritten diaries (1859; 1863-1864), correspondence, financial documents, and newspaper clippings. Col. Breaux's writings relate to his work as a lawyer, social and political topics, and later describe experiences and events surrounding the Civil War era. Mention is made of Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis.
