Paul Claudel papers
Collection
Identifier: LaRC-696
Scope and Contents
The collection consists forty-one letters, thirty-nine of which are from Paul Claudel to Eve Francis. Paul Claudel (1868-1955) was a French poet and dramatist and Eve Francis (1896-1980) was an actress. They had been friends since Francis had first played the part of Sygne de Coufontaine in the creation of "L'Otage." The correspondence deals with Francis' life, which Claudel finds lacking in religious faith, and with the staging and interpretation of various plays by Claudel.
