The collection includes materials for a course on American civilization, articles, book budgets, class notes, correspondence, jazz notes, pamphlets, periodicals, possible Kmen manuscripts, and tests. Henry Arnold Kmen was a member of Tulane University's history faculty and introduced the Black Studies Program at Tulane in the 1960s.
The collection consists of drafts of three works by Hugh F. Rankin, a professor of history at Tulane University. There are handwritten, typewritten, photocopy, and carbon copy drafts of The Golden Age of Piracy as well as a carbon draft of Upheaval of Albemarle and a typewritten draft of The American Revolution.
