Scope and Contents This collection is comprised of Civil War letters written between Ambert O. Remington and his parents between December 1861 and June 1863. The collection chronicles Remington’s service from his deployment to his death. For the first half of the collection the soldier is stationed in Florida, defending the recently captured Fort Pickens on Santa Rosa Island. Later, Remington’s company redeploys to New Orleans, which at the time was the largest city in the American South. He stays in the area...
