The collection consists of correspondence, journals, clippings, and other papers of Henry Ginder of New Orleans. Most of the correspondence (1862-1865) are from Ginder to his wife and describe his travel, work, and activities in the Confederate Army and the Corps of Engineers. There are letters describing Ginder's observations while at the siege of Vicksburg in 1863. An 1864 journal contains hand-drawn maps detailing his movements.
