Content Description

1876 Richly bound album of 10 mounted albumen prints taken by noted photograph, Christiano Junior. Each print it titled in Spanish with extensive description printed on the opposite page in four languages: Spanish, French, English, and German. Junior published "Vistas y costumbres de la República Argentina: Provincia de Buenos-Aires" in 1876. His photographic work was honored with a gold medal at the Exposición Nacional de Córdoba in 1871. In the foreword to the album, Junior writes that the 1871 award inspired him to conceive of a grander project to photograph the historic cityscapes of all Argentina from the Atlantic to the Andes. This particular volume of "Vistas" was the first in what was to be a series of volumes to comprise a multi-volume album resulting from Junior's travels across Argentina. Unfortunately, he never completed the project.
