John Geddings Gray 1928 Memorial Expedition Papers
Scope and Contents
December 30, 1927-August 5, 1928. Frans Blom diaries and records written during the 1928 Gray Memorial Expedition to Chiapas, Mexico and Guatemala. Also includes the diary of expedition medic Louis Bristow and Blom's calendar notes, archaeological notes, and notes on plant names. 20 pieces. The collection consists of diaries, notes, records, and photographs made during the Gray Memorial Expedition to Chiapas, Mexico and Guatemala. This was Tulane's 4th expedition to Middle America and was considered the most ambitious and dangerous. Frans Blom headed the expedition. Other members were Louis Bristow, Webster McBryde, Ciriaco Aguilar, and Gustav Kanter. While most of the papers here were written by Blom, the diary of Louis Bristow, who served as expedition doctor, is also included. Photographs of the expedition are found in Photograph Collection 41.
