Scope and Contents

Please note: The Carnival finding aid is a work in progress, and is frequently updated. The ephemera listing is current through Petronius. Additional ephemera available in krewes after Petronius, but have not been listed yet. Please consult with staff for assistance. Out for Exhibit Loan

Items from the Proteus series, Costume Designs, 1882-1909 sub-series are currently out on exhibit loan and unavailable for research. Please contact specialcollections@tulane.edu for more information.

Arranged in six series: 1. Ephemera: Invitations, programs, cards, printed material, broadsides, proclamations, posters, oversized ; 2. Original float designs; 3. Original costume designs; 4. Float plates (bulletins); 5. Audiovisual materials: photographs* and other audiovisual materials, including Emile Rainold collection of color slides; 6. Realia: Krewe favors, pins, medals, jewels, scepters, carnival throws, doubloons, cups, beads. In addition are other non-900 collections, including the Otto Stierle (Collection 902) Carnival collection, including Gay Carnival materials. Within series, organized by krewe. *Photograph Boxes 3-5 contain photographs arranged by subject matter (parages, groups, scene), not krewe.
