Langermann and Celles Fire Insurance Atlases Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection includes seven fire insurance atlases that cover the 1st through 6th districts of New Orleans, Louisiana. One undated volume of the 6th district has the name of civil engineer J.A. Celles. Another volume, dated 1873, has the name of New Orleans surveyor Auguste B. Langermann. The other volumes, all unsigned and undated, are similar in presentation to the Langermann volume, and are presumed to be by him. Atlases show blocks in districts and boundaries of properties. Some also show front portions of buildings on properties; rear portions are generally not shown. Buildings are color coded to indicate the materials of which they are constructed. Some atlases have notations indicating owners and values of properties.
