Other documents pertain to the New Orleans Mayor's Conference on Women, the Essence Festival, the YWCA Battered Women's Program, the New Orleans Women's Network, the John Kerry presidential campaign and other organizations. The collection consists of meeting notes, event planning, event fliers, correspondence with politicians, donor lists, photographs, newsletters, conference material, and Kerry Roots sign-up sheets.

Biographical / Historical

Melissa Smith was born in New Orleans and grew up in St. Tammany Parish. She received a Master of the Arts in history from the University of New Orleans and a Bachelor of Arts in history from Loyola University in New Orleans. Her studies focus on New Orleans history, African American history, Louisiana history and women’s history. Smith worked as a processing archivist for the Historic New Orleans Collection and the Louisiana Research Collection. She also held positions at the Amistad Research Center and the Louisiana State Museum.
