Scope and Contents

This collection of records, from New Orleans interior designer Harry L. Moses' office, mostly includes professional project drawings of business, commercial, and residential buildings and alterations. Projects were done in New Orleans, throughout Louisiana, and a few cities throughout the United States. Scattered correspondence and specifications are also maintained.

Biographical / Historical

Moses had a successful career as an interior designer in New Orleans during the early part of the 20th century. His commissions include the interior for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 30 in New Orleans, as well as residential projects in New Orleans.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged into two series: Series 1: Project Drawings; Series 2: Project Specifications and Correspondence.

Custodial History

Drawings were stored in the attic of Moses at his last business address, 313 Royal Street, New Orleans, where they were forgotten after his death. They were discovered by architect Leon Impastato, during a survey of the building, who arranged for the building’s owner, Kenneth Nahan, to make them a gift to Tulane in 1981.

Physical Description

Drawings and blueprints are very brittle.
