Biographical / Historical
Charles P. Nutter (1902-1987) worked as a foreign correspondent with the Associated Press, international relations specialist, and newspaper owner. His writing assignments sent him to Mexico (1929-1933), Washington (1933-1935), London (1935-1936), Russia (1936-1937), the Spanish Civil War (1937-1938), and Louisiana (1939-1941) where he was aligned with anti-Long factions. In New Orleans, he served as director of the International House from 1946 to 1961. In 1961, Charles Nutter directed an organization in Kansas City called People-to-People, a public relations program which had been conceived by President Eisenhower, but not federally funded, to address issues of international understanding. He continued working in the newspaper business and in foreign relations efforts until his retirement in the mid-1970s. He was married to Eleanor Halderman Nutter.
