Scope and Contents

The collection consists primarily of various types of early currency, including Confederate currency as well as currency from different Louisiana cities and towns, banks parishes, railroads and transportation companies, and some other states. In addition, there are checks, bonds, mortgages, promissory notes, receipts, option tickets, lottery tickets, stock certificates, and correspondence.

Collection is open to the public. Boxes 1 and 2 of this collection on the shelf are copies and the originals are in restricted houseing. Patrons are asked to utilize copies first. Freight bills from this collection are filed in the Joseph Merrick Jones Steamboat collection #262, Boxes 6-9.

Physical rights are retained by the Louisiana Research Collection. Copyright is retained in accordance with U.S. copyright laws.

Biographical / Historical

Alvin Edwin Brizzard (b. 1928) married Lynette Straley and had two children. His family originated from Morgan City, Louisiana. He was an accountant in California.
