Grossman and Myers families papers
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of family papers, genealogies, correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, political papers, essays, poems, scripts, certificates, legal documents, and financial papers belonging or relating to Joel Grossman Myers or her husband, Bert Myers. Included in the collection are World War II letters from Joel Grossman Myers' father, Louis Eugene Grossman and her letters to him as well as other papers relating to the lives of ancestors, including Simon Abraham and Emile Kahn. There are genealogies of the Grossman, Dreyfus, Kahn, Abraham, and Myers families. Her master's thesis at Tulane, entitled "A Reputational Study of Women Leaders in New Orleans" is also included.

Biographical / Historical
Joel Grossman Myers (b. 1934) was born in New Orleans and is active in political campaigns and economic affairs. She has served as associate research director of the Louisiana Occupational Training Information System, administrator at the Poydras Home, and as president of the League of Women Voters (1983-1984). She has been active in political campaigns, including the re-election of Mayor Sidney Bartholemy, economic research, and other civic causes. Her husband, Bert Myers, is a retired academic physician and art photographer.

The collection is arranged by topic as follows: family papers, community and school organizations, "Prologue to Action", Joel Grossman Myers papers, family scrapbooks, family legal papers, Joel Grossman Myers master's thesis and work on the 1969 mayoralty campaign, Fanny Claire Kahn correspondence, Joel Grossman Myers movie reels, family financial records, and family genealogical material. The collection consists of twelve boxes and two bound volumes.
