Scope and Contents

The collection was gathered together by M. Alston Read as collection of photographic and pictorial likenesses of his forebears. Included are members of the Alston, Hayne, Rutledge, Burr, Pinckney, Freer, Blacklock, Blake, Cabel, Cooper, Flagg, Ladson, Motte, Pettigrew, Smith, Weems, and Read families. The collection also includes a diary kept by Mary A. Read in 1893 as well as correspondence of M. Alston Read. In addition to photographs, there are also lithographs, etchings, engravings, photographs of paintings, a map, brochures, travel guides, a calendar, a calling card, and articles.
