Biographical / Historical

The New Orleans LGBT Community Center (formerly the New Orleans Lesbian and Gay Community Center) opened on December 12th, 1992 in the French Quarter. Operated almost exclusively by a small board of directors and a local volunteer base, the center offered social and cultural support to the gender and sexual minorities of the greater New Orleans area, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, religious views, economic status, physical ability, gender identification, or sexual orientation. The Center has offered numerous services, including an anonymous mailing list, phone and walk-in reception, and various networking groups, and it has organized many events, including Pride marches, film festivals, and galas. The staff of the LGBT Community Center also wrote and circulated a regular periodical called The Center Line.
