Description

  • Scope and Contents

    This collection consists of the financial and legal records of the Jewish Children's Home of New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as correspondence, printed material, reports, Alumni Association documents, video and audio tapes. Included are issues of Golden City messenger, called the "official organ of the Jewish Children's Home." Founding records (1855-1939) were sent in 1948 by the by the directors and board of the Jewish Childrens Home to the American Jewish Archives. Early materials remaining in the Tulane Archives are: Some death records, some printed materials date back to 1871, including specifications for the Saint Charles Street Building; Annual Reports date back to 1871; Dedication of the Isidore Newman Manual Training School; some financial materials.

  • Arrangement

    The collection is arranged into 60 boxes and 27 volumes. It is 34 linear feet.

  • Conditions Governing Access

    Collection is open to the public. However, for the protection of privacy, photocopying or photographing the contents of Boxes 15-19 is not allowed. Researchers may not reveal the names of residents or recipients of care, and must sign a confidentiality agreement prior to accessing the collection. Researchers should note that some of the administrative correspondence and board minutes in "unrestricted boxes" still contains confidential information, and the rules agreed to for use of the restricted boxes applies to confidential material found elsewhere in the collection.
